Roberto Rizzi Brignoli studied piano, composition, and conducting at the Milan Conservatory. Until 2002, he served as »Responsabile dei Servizi Musicali« at Teatro alla Scala and worked with Riccardo Muti, whose esteem enabled him to conduct several operas at La Scala. Rizzi Brignoli gained international recognition through successful productions of Donizetti’s »Lucrezia Borgia« and Cilea’s »Adriana Lecouvreur« at La Scala in Milan. An expert in the Italian and French opera repertoire, he has appeared at renowned venues and festivals worldwide, including the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Semperoper Dresden, the opera houses of Hamburg, Stuttgart, and Frankfurt, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York, as well as the Festival Puccini in Torre del Lago and the Rossini Opera Festival. Since 2023/24, he has been the General Music Director of the Orchestra of the Nationaltheater Mannheim. He is also highly sought after as a concert conductor, with a broad symphonic repertoire spanning the Classical period to contemporary works.
