The Deutsche Radio Philharmonic Orchestra (DRP) is one of the major radio symphony orchestras of the ARD. It is jointly supported by Saarland Radio and Southwest Radio and is based in Saarbrücken and Kaiserslautern. The orchestra’s work focuses on the core classical and romantic repertoire, but also includes rarely performed pieces, new and rediscovered works, contemporary compositions, and excursions into Jazz. With concert offerings for classical music newcomers, families, and schools, the DRP continually breaks new ground. Further highlights include the »Moments musicaux« series at the Moderne Galerie Saarbrücken and the Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern, pub and ensemble concerts in which DRP members can be experienced in chamber music formations. The orchestra’s work also includes promoting young talents, CD productions, and guest concerts in Germany and abroad. At the beginning of this season, Spaniard Josep Pons took up his post as principal conductor and artistic director of the DRP. Over three seasons, he is presenting a program series that focuses on »Visions of Europe«.
