The Polish bass-baritone Bartosz Urbanowicz commenced his vocal training in Rzeszów and graduated with distinction from the Academy of Music in Katowice. In the same year, at just 23 years old, he debuted as Varlaam in Mussorgsky’s »Boris Godunov«. Other early roles included Sarastro in Mozart’s »The Magic Flute«, as well as the bass parts in Mozart’s »Requiem« and Bach’s »Magnificat«. He quickly performed at major Polish opera houses, including roles such as Gavrius in Shostakovich’s »The Gamblers« and Louis Capet and Condorcet in Waters’ »Ça Ira«. Following the successful premiere of Gorczycki’s opera »Completorium«, he toured Italy with this production. He has collaborated with directors such as Gianfranco De Bosio, Maciej Prus, Wiesław Ochman, Janusz Józefowicz, and Grzegorz Jarzyna. Currently, Urbanowicz performs regularly with leading Polish opera companies in Kraków, Wrocław, and Poznań. Since 2013/14, he has been a member of the opera ensemble at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, where he has recently appeared as Bartolo in »The Barber of Seville« and Don Alfonso in »Così fan tutte«.
