When the citizens of Reutlingen founded a professional orchestra in 1945, right after the Second World War, it marked the birth of what is now the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen (WPR). The original idea of fostering social cohesion through music endures and is reflected in the orchestra’s cosmopolitanism and curiosity. In its highly acclaimed »Erlebniswelt Orchester« (Orchestra Experience), the WPR continually develops new formats and collaborates with regional cultural partners. The orchestra works with renowned and established musicians as well as young talents and has been dedicated to various musical styles beyond classical-romantic orchestral music for decades. Through numerous children’s and family concerts and other initiatives, the WPR actively strives to attract a new generation of audiences. It has received two awards for its livestream format, »Das Orchester-Quiz« (The Orchestra Quiz). Numerous CD and radio recordings document the artistic work of the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, which will be led by French conductor Ariane Matiakh as principal conductor from the start of the 2022/23 season.
