Manfred Honeck is regarded as one of the world’s leading conductors, internationally acclaimed for his innovative interpretations. Now in his 18th season as Music Director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, he shapes the orchestra’s artistic identity with great passion. His work as a conductor is rooted in the many years of experience he gained as a member of the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra. He began his career in Vienna under Claudio Abbado, later becoming Principal Conductor at the Zurich Opera House, where he was awarded the European Conductor’s Prize. Manfred Honeck served as one of the principal conductors of the MDR Symphony Orchestra, became Music Director of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Stockholm, and was General Music Director of the Stuttgart State Opera from 2007 to 2011. As a guest conductor, he has led the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestre de Paris. In the United States, he has conducted the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and others.
